Engaged by the customers we were asked to remodel the downstairs area of the property. Our clients found the original area was not the best use of space for a growing family and had wanted a 'chic’ kitchen/dining area to allow them to entertain on a more regular basis. Installing a Howdens, handleless, high gloss kitchen wit with a ‘glass effect’ work surface and coloured glass splash backs really opened up this small area to give the feeling of space and light but also, with the careful planning and design, generating around 30% more storage than the original kitchen allowed.
By knocking down the old conservatory and inputting a 3.6m set of Aluminium Bi-Folding doors this created a large dining area directly adjoining the kitchen thus creating a great open plan kitchen/diner. The Bi-folding doors now lead out onto a beautifully crafted Indian sandstone patio area stalling 90m2 with steps down to the generously sized grass area. By making better use kitchen and dining area, we were able to construct a utility room and downstairs toilet by ‘pinching’ a little space from the, what was oversized, play room. Both small and compact but housing everything required such as the tumble dryer, washing machine, new boiler etc…
The old ‘playroom’, now redundant with the families children all growing older, becoming a ‘cinema room’ housing a comfortable corner sofa, surround sound audio system and new LCD TV.
At the front section of the house, the 'home office’ was originally kitted out with inherited office furniture which appeared bulky and ill fitting. Using the same material finish as the kitchen, a low level work surface was created with drawers and cupboards creating a bespoke and perfectly fitting desk area allowing this family business to operate from a purpose made room.
Decorated throughout the entire ground floor using Dulux Diamond Matt paints in varying shades of white and grey and a professional ‘V groove’ grey oak effect laminate flooring laid throughout created continuity and brightness throughout the flow of the entire downstairs.
